Extreme Temperatures in Schools
Reposted 1/2/2010
There have been a number of concerns raised about working/teaching under duress in schools during times of Extreme Temperatures. The AEU policy on physical conditions in schools states that the minimum acceptable temperature is 17 degrees and the maximum is 30 degrees. Australian Standards [1837-1976] for offices states that the minimum temperature is 20 degrees and the maximum 26 degrees. For a stepped strategy and instructions on managing extreme temperatures at your school under the new Work Safety Bill 2008 click here.

Unresolved Working Conditions Issues:
-
Part-time Roster
Posted 2/11/2010
To alleviate some of that confusion around hours of work generated by the DET Part-time Roster, the AEU has now put its roster on the website. The difference between the two is in the required attendance time ... DET's roster is based on a 36 hours 45 minutes week for purposes of leave and pay while the Union's retains the 32 hours and 30 minutes week. The roster should be read in conjunction with Section CC - Monitoring of Workloads in our Enterprise Agreement, so you are able to add such professional responsibilities as meeting times, parent-teacher evenings, open nights and so on over and above the benchmark 32:30. .
